The Amount of Greenhouse Gases
The amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has increased and this is one of the major factors that have contributed to global warming.
Green houses like carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons and carbon monoxide trap the infra red radiations from the sun and ensure that the earth is hospitable to various living species.
In fact, without these gases, the earth would be freezing and would not be able to house so many living species in the planet. The trapping of the sun’s heat by these greenhouse gases is called the ‘greenhouse effect’.
Since the amount of these gases has increased in the atmosphere, the amount of heat trapped is higher than normal and this has brought about an increase in the temperature across the globe.
Other factors that contribute to global warming include automobile emissions, industrial pollutants in the air and some of the agricultural and mining activities that emit greenhouse gases as by-products.
Using recycled products, unplugging electrical appliances when not in use, using energy saving gadgets as well as reforestation can go a long way in bringing the greenhouse gases back to normal concentration levels thereby making our planet more hospitable to the constant evolution of life.
